NYC income tax brackets 2026
The city applies its own schedule to the same taxable income as New York State, so deductions that lower your state tax lower your city tax too.

|---|---|---|---|
| 3.078% | $0 to $12,000 | $0 to $21,600 | $0 to $14,400 |

How NYC income tax works
- It follows where you live. Residents of the five boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island) pay it on all their income. Commuters who live outside the city do not pay it, even when they work in Manhattan.
- It is filed with the state return. There is no separate city return: the city tax is worked out on the New York State resident return.
- It is progressive but nearly flat. The rates run from 3.078% to 3.876%, and single filers reach the top rate at $50,000 of taxable income. On $100,000 a single filer pays $3,441, 3.4% of the salary.
- What we leave out. Same schedule since 2017; NYC household, school tax and EITC credits are not modelled.
Yonkers
Yonkers is the other New York city with a resident income tax. Instead of brackets it charges 16.75% of your New York State tax after credits, about $814 on a $100,000 salary. Pick Yonkers in the City field above, or open the Yonkers paycheck calculator.

NYC tax FAQ
What is the NYC income tax rate for 2026?
3.078% to 3.876% of New York taxable income, in 4 brackets. For single filers the top rate starts at $50,000; married couples filing jointly reach it at $90,000. It comes on top of federal and New York State income tax.
How much is $100,000 after taxes in NYC?
About $70,879 a year, or $2,726 every two weeks, for a single filer in 2026: $13,170 federal income tax, $7,650 Social Security and Medicare, $4,860 New York State and $3,441 New York City tax.
Do I pay NYC income tax if I work in NYC but live in New Jersey or Long Island?
No. New York City income tax applies to residents of the five boroughs, so commuters who live outside the city do not pay it. New York State can still tax non-residents on wages earned in New York; this calculator assumes you live and work in the same state.
How much more tax do you pay living in NYC?
On a $100,000 salary, a single filer keeps $3,441 less a year in New York City than elsewhere in New York State: that is the city tax, 3.4% of the salary.
Does Yonkers have a city income tax?
Yes. Yonkers residents pay a surcharge of 16.75% of their New York State income tax after credits: about $814 on a $100,000 salary for a single filer in 2026.
