Where our numbers come from

Every rate, bracket and threshold comes from a primary source: IRS revenue procedures and publications, the Social Security Administration and each state's department of revenue. Each data file records the source URL and the date it was last checked.

How we verify them

  • New figures are extracted once a year, when the IRS and the states publish them (usually October to December).
  • Every change is checked line by line against the official source before it goes live.
  • Automated tests compare our results with the fixed amounts printed in the IRS rate tables and with independent tax models.

What our estimates are not

TaxWren gives estimates for planning. It is not tax, legal or accounting advice. Your actual tax depends on details we do not ask about; each calculator lists what it assumes.

Corrections

If you find a number that does not match an official source, tell us and we will check it and fix it. Corrections are noted on the page's last-updated date.
