Frequently asked questions

How is take-home pay calculated?

Start with your gross salary, subtract pre-tax 401(k) contributions, then federal income tax (after the $16,100 standard deduction for single filers), Social Security at 6.2% up to $184,500, Medicare at 1.45%, and any state and local income tax.

How much is $75,000 after taxes?

In a state with no income tax, a single filer earning $75,000 in 2026 takes home about $61,593 a year, or $2,369 every two weeks. Pick your state above for an exact figure.

When does the extra 0.9% Medicare tax apply?

On wages above $200,000 for single filers or $250,000 for married couples filing jointly.

Why is my paycheck different from this estimate?

Employers withhold tax using IRS withholding tables and your W-4, which rarely match your final tax exactly. Health insurance premiums, HSA contributions and other payroll deductions also reduce your paycheck. This calculator shows the tax you actually owe for the year.
